Wine tastings in Lanzarote: where and for how much
A tasting can take 35 minutes, or more than three hours with a table and a menu. The price is not what stands in the way: the calendar is, because almost everything runs from Monday to Friday.
You do not need to book an excursion or give up the rest of the day to taste wine in Lanzarote. The short tasting fits between the beach and dinner, and the long one turns a whole afternoon into a laid table among vineyards. Published prices run from 15 € to 95 €, and what makes the difference is what each one carries inside: glasses alone, vineyard, chocolate or a meal.
Before choosing, it helps to know what you are buying. The tasting is what you drink, the visit is the tour that comes with it, and the experience is the package of both, with a price and a booking. Almost everything on this list belongs to the third category, so you start with the glasses and end with the table set.
And one detail orders the whole week: from Saturday to Sunday only three options stay open, two of them in La Geria.
Tasting without a visit, just glasses
Of all the tastings on this list, only two stay at the glass, with no vineyard walk and no winery in between. The first is the Cata de Vinos Seleccionados at El Grifo, on the LZ-30 road: five wines with commentary in 35 minutes for 30 €, adults only. The second heads north, to Guatiza, with Bodega David Fernández: five wines in 45 minutes for 25 €, at the winery itself, in groups that never go above ten people.
On its website the house describes an unhurried tasting, glass by glass, in which the soil, the island's climate and the winery's own work explain each wine, and every label has a story behind it. The wine is made in a cellar dug out of the volcanic rock, only traditional Lanzarote varieties go into it, and what you drink there is what comes out of that place, with no walk through the vineyard in between.
The idea in both is the same: wines, comments and off you go, with the whole day still ahead.
The sunset with chocolate, on a 16th-century estate
Finca Testeina is the afternoon plan of this list. The estate dates from the 16th century and lives in the middle of the Paisaje Protegido de La Geria, and its sunset experience puts together a guided visit of the vineyards and the old house, a tasting of Bodegas Vega de Yuco wines and artisan chocolate from the island. It is 26 € for 90 minutes, and children aged 5 to 17 pay 15 €. The calendar is tight: it runs on Wednesdays in English and Thursdays in Spanish, and there are no other days.
Testeina also has alternative versions. In the morning it programmes an eco tasting with chocolate, and on Tuesdays it puts on a themed workshop on Malvasía volcánica with four wines of the variety, from 17:30 to 19:00 and in English. Neither one publishes a price, so you ask and you book.
El Grifo, from the audio guide to the menu
El Grifo covers the whole range, starting with the lowest price on this list: a 45-minute audio-guided visit for 15 €, each at their own pace, that ends with two glasses of wine, and children up to 17 pay no admission.
The scale climbs with Wine Lovers, at 50 €: a two-hour guided visit that finishes with a tasting of six wines, adults only. And Wine Lovers & Gastronomy, at 95 €, adds the table: the two-hour visit is followed by a gastronomic menu of an hour and a half with the six wines of the tasting.
The house's four plans also run at its wine bar in San Bartolomé, a few steps from the winery itself.
Rubicón: guided every day and free entry
At Bodegas Rubicón payment is optional: the house, in the middle of La Geria, opens its grounds with no entry fee, and the guided visit is what carries the price. Entre Muros y Viñedos Centenarios costs 22 €, the lowest price among the guided visits with tasting on this list. The name announces the landscape of the route, the walls and the centuries-old vineyards.
The wine shop at the Campesino, with a sommelier
La Casa del Vino Canario is not a winery: it is a wine shop next to the Monumento al Campesino, César Manrique's work, which its website places at the geographic centre of the island. There you do not taste one single winery: you taste wines from all the islands of the archipelago.
The tastings are led by Vicenta Mira, the house's sommelier, and each session has its own theme: on the website they list artisan Canarian ciders, sparkling wines from the islands, a themed tasting of chardonnay or a tasting of international wines, with prices from 30 € to 50 €. The sessions run in the morning, on weekdays.
"Juntos descubriremos el vino viajando entre palabras y copas", Vicenta Mira presents herself on the house's website: "Together we will discover wine, travelling between words and glasses."
The tastings that do not publish a price
Three houses run tastings and never show the figure. Booking is still possible, online or with a message.
Bodega La Geria, at kilometre 19 of the La Geria road, runs guided visits and tastings every day, with no published price. According to its website, places go on sale twelve days before the chosen date, the visit is not accessible for people with difficulty walking, and groups of more than eight people are coordinated by email.
Bodega Stratvs, inside the Barranco del Obispo and next to the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya, runs a one-hour guided tour with a final tasting of three wines and artisan cheeses, every day, booked on its website. The house started up in 2008 around a traditional Canarian house from 1730, and on Saturdays from 13:00 to 15:30 the winery organises the Maridaje Sonoro, with live music, wines and nibbles.
Lanzarote Natural, in Tinajo, presents itself as the smallest winery on the island and takes wine to the table unhurried: a tasting of two glasses of wine from the D.O. Lanzarote with enyesque, the local tapas, and pure prickly pear juice. The tasting lasts about an hour and runs in two sittings, at 10:00 and at 12:00, with the exact time confirmed by WhatsApp.

Days, languages and booking
El Grifo closes on Saturdays and Sundays, at the winery and at the wine bar. Bodega David Fernández and the Casa del Vino Canario do the same, and Finca Testeina also rests on Mondays. The weekend, on the other hand, is shared out between Rubicón, Stratvs and La Geria: daily guided visits at the first two, and at the third its 10:00 tasting and open doors until 20:00 on Saturdays and from 11:00 on Sundays.
On languages, El Grifo serves in Spanish, English, French and Italian, and David Fernández adds German. To book, each house's website is the way in, and at Lanzarote Natural it is all arranged by WhatsApp.
What to choose depending on the day
If the glass is the only plan, El Grifo's 35-minute tasting and the five glasses at Guatiza are done in under an hour, with time to spare for whatever comes next. If your trip falls at the weekend, the map narrows to Rubicón, Stratvs and La Geria. And if the tasting is going to take the afternoon, Testeina brings the sunset and the chocolate, and El Grifo turns the plan into a long meal with six wines and a menu.
