Bodegas La Florida sits in El Islote, in San Bartolomé, five minutes from the Monumento al Campesino, on a mid-19th-century estate built in the traditional Lanzarote style and restored; the old lagar, the press house, is still standing inside. The property covers around 200,000 square metres, and much of the fruit comes from its own picón soils, where vines are planted in holes and trenches shielded by volcanic ash, the local way of protecting roots from wind and drought. The winery started making wine in 2012 and sells under the Jameo label: a varietal Malvasía Volcánica white, a red led by Listán Negro with Syrah and Tempranillo, and a sweet Moscatel that suits Canarian cheeses or the end of a meal. A visit takes in the old press house and the cellars, includes a tasting of the range and ends in the gourmet shop stocked with local produce. Outside, lawn, a volcanic jameo ringed by vines and a landmark dragon tree host weddings and events, with covered rooms for conferences.
