The Museo Atlántico Lanzarote is a diving experience, not a winery: you visit it underwater off Playa Blanca, in a sheltered bay near Papagayo. Jason deCaires Taylor’s project brings together more than 300 life-size sculptures at 12–14 metres, designed as an artificial reef using pH-neutral materials that encourage corals and marine life. Installations include figures walking towards a wall, a boat carrying migrants, children in traditional boats, human-nature hybrids, swings and a circle of 200 figures. The dive is made by boat and may reveal barracudas, octopus, rays or sardines, while the works change as marine life colonises them. Certified divers join a guided dive; people without a licence can take an introductory programme with pool practice, a shore dive and a boat dive to the museum, supervised by instructors. It is for travellers looking for art and nature underwater, not for wine tasting.
